The area of study I will be focusing on for this project is the island of Bermuda. Being just 21 square miles, this blog will assess the biodiversity across the whole island.
I just went to Bermuda for the first time a little over a week ago, and it may be the most beautiful place I have ever been. This island now has sentimental value to me, as I just got engaged there, but also fascinated me as I learned environmental tidbits in my time there. During a tour we took, I learned of several interesting plant dynamics on the island, including the struggle to keep morning glories from overtaking other plant life, and the regrowth of the once diminished Bermuda cedar trees. Additionally, I learned they do a great deal of ocean study on the island and they have very interesting mechanisms, such as a device to filter the smoke that comes from the incineration of all of the island’s trash.
With this blog I plan to work to aggregate resources about Bermuda’s biodiversity into one accessible location.
