My Definition of Biodiversity

Writer's picture: Kelsea BatchelderKelsea Batchelder

Biodiversity is the number of animal, microorganism, fungi and plant species that build an ecosystem, with recognition that increased amounts of biodiversity lead to a more stable system and functional ecosystem services.

The bolded pieces of my definition were added after doing research, as I thought this would be a good way to differentiate from what I had an idea of and what I learned. Many of the definitions I saw from others online were the same, so I chose to use the World Wildlife Fund definition as the one I would build with. The bold pieces are adaptations from the World Wildlife Fund.
